Vocabulaire thématique de langue parlée français-tibétain (Thematic vocabulary of French-language Tibetan)

The purpose of this Thematic vocabulary is to provide what is "sufficient, knowable and useful", in the words of Kalonji lexicographer, the speakers of both languages wishing to discuss many topics as possible, ranging from international relations to Tibetan Buddhism in through parts of the body as well as transports. The book has about 10,000 entries, divided into 34 sections. It is conceived in an analog manner, each term leading to another semantic point of view, without alphabetical order. Tibetan is written in Tibetan script, as Tibetan can be read easily once reading rules are understood. A French alphabetically index also allows access to words and phrases searched. Ten Tibetan collaborators have systematically reviewed the corpus.

Eric Mélac, Tibetan speaker, is a doctoral student in English linguistics at Paris III. Françoise Robin is a lecturer at Inalco.
