108 devinettes du Tibet

Translation: Françoise Robin, Véronique Gossot

A beautiful bilingual illustrated book to help adults and children alike to discover the Land of Snows

Guessing games are an integral part of Tibetan cultural life. To date, these riddles have not been translated into any Western language, and the publication of this book serves to contribute to the preservation of a fragile heritage. The authors have collected the majority of the one hundred and eight riddles in the book from Tibetans themselves, and in so doing have endeavoured to transcribe sound and rhythmic games, humor and poetry. They also trace the origins of this oral tradition through a series of lived testimonies. The original watercolours which illustrate the solution to each enigma depict the flora, fauna, landscapes and objects native to the Land of Snows.
